    Lactation Room

    Overview

Baruch College has a comfortable and private lactation room for use by faculty and staff members. Conveniently located near restrooms and vending machines, the lactation room is located in room #112 on the first floor of the Information and Technology Building.

Section 206-c of the New York State Labor Law states that an employer shall provide reasonable unpaid break time or permit an employee to use paid break time or meal time each day to allow an employee to express breast milk for her nursing child for up to three years following child birth. The employer shall make reasonable efforts to provide a room or other location, in close proximity to the work area, where an employee can express milk in privacy. No employer shall discriminate in any way against an employee who chooses to express breast milk in the workplace.

Please review the Guidelines Regarding the Rights of Nursing Mothers to Express Breast Milk in the Workplace for additional information.

    Lactation Room Access

Members of the faculty and staff are granted access to the lactation room, immediately upon return from Family Medical Leave and/or Paid Parental Leave Form. Access is via swipe access as authorized by the office of Human Resources.

Once granted access to the lactation room, it is understood that all individuals who utilize the facility will clean up accordingly after use and notify facilities of any large spills. It is also understood that all individuals who utilize the facility should not leave any personal items or equipment in the lactation room unattended or overnight.

Please review the CUNY Lactation Room Access and Policy for additional information.
